Since Le Grand Depart navigated the roads of Yorkshire and passed by our brewery in 2014, the legacy that the Tour created has had a lasting impact on us here at Black Sheep.
Part of that legacy has been the Tour de Yorkshire, a four day cycling race that traverses the hills and roads of our home county. Since its inception in 2015, the race has grown to be one of the biggest in the UK and the World with over 2 million spectators every year. Our hometown of Masham has been fortunate enough to be part of the race route each year and as a result, we’ve always got behind the celebrations!
In 2018, we were delighted to announce a new formal three year partnership with Tour de Yorkshire and joined their sponsors as the official brewery of the event. It proved to be an immensely exciting weekend as elite cyclists from across the world took to the roads of Yorkshire.
On the final day, the race passed through our home town of Masham where we’d organised a special prize for one lucky cyclist! ‘The Black Sheep Straight’ was a 1 km section of the route where the first cyclist through the line would win their height in beer. This was won by French cyclist, and the eventual stage winner, Stephane Rossetto who certainly enjoyed his post-race beer!
We’re so proud to be part of this amazing event and after a successful first year, we can’t wait to see what 2019 brings! Watch this space!
