Our Riggwelter Beer is the third beer we ever created at Black Sheep Brewery. It’s a strong, dark, Yorkshire beer with a wonderfully complex palate: hints of coffee, banana and liquorice, combined with a classic dry Goldings hop finish.
Riggwelter takes its name from a local farming term in the Yorkshire Dales. The word has Norse roots, with “rygg”” meaning back and “velte” meaning to overturn. A sheep is said to be rigged or “riggwelted” when it has rolled onto its back and is unable to get back up without assistance.
At 5.7%, you might be able to guess why we named it!
