Monty Python star find Holy Grail!
The award-winning director and member of the Monty Python’s Flying Circus team was presented with a bottle of his favourite ale from the Yorkshire-based brewery during the Bradford International Film Festival (BIFF).
Mr Gilliam was granted the Fellowship of the Festival on March 19 and, as well as receiving a glass trophy from BIFF Artistic Director Tony Earnshaw, he was given a bottle of the ale, which the Pythons themselves specially commissioned in 1999 to commemorate their 30th anniversary.
Named after the comedy troupe’s 1975 film Monty Python and the Holy Grail, the ale, created by the award-winning Black Sheep Brewery in Masham, is golden with a distinctively fruity flavour followed by the Black Sheep signature dry finish.
The Black Sheep Brewery was an official sponsor of the 17thannual Bradford International Film Festival which was held in March at the National Media Museum in Bradford and other satellite venues around the region.
Jo Theakston, sales and marketing director for Black Sheep Brewery, said: “More than a decade after Monty Python asked us to create an ale for them, Holy Grail is still going strong.
“We are delighted Terry Gilliam is still enjoying it – although not surprised as Holy Grail is our most popular beer in his home country, the United States.
“We are all huge Monty Python fans and are currently supplying the beer in all theatres showing the hit musical “Spamalot” on the nationwide tour.”
