The Black Sheep Brewery is the 2009 winner of the prestigious IFS Proshare, ‘Best commitment to employee share ownership for small companies with fewer than 250 employees’ award for their impressive link between employee share ownership and business corporate objectives.

Now in its 17th year the IFS Proshare Awards are recognised as setting the Gold standard of excellence in the employee share plans industry.

Chair of the awards Judging panel, Stuart Bailey said: ‘The awards are a barometer for trends in the industry. Companies scoring well with the judges demonstrated the commitment of senior management in supporting their employee share plans, and how the share plan linked with their corporate objectives.

The Black Sheep Brewery’s ‘Sharesave Scheme’ is a mature plan which is clearly supported by Paul Theakston, the Managing Director, who is fully aware of the positive impact employee share ownership has on the culture of a company. Black Sheep also have an effective communication plan to encourage participation with the Finance Director taking time to speak with staff.

The Masham based brewery has now been invited to deliver a presentation at the Celebrating Excellence Awards in February 2010 which showcases the winners demonstrating best practice and insights.

Finance Director of Black Sheep Brewery, Steve Constable said: ‘I’m very pleased to be commended for our commitment to our employees as it is very important to us. We have an impressive 80 per cent of employees holding shares. We are proud of our low staff turnover rates which are evidenced by 48 of the original 54 holders still being employed here at Black Sheep when the 2006 SAYE matured earlier this year.’
