Introducing VELO – a free wheeling, fresh, pale ale (4.2%) from Black Sheep

Category: Brewery News

As the excitement builds ahead the worlds biggest cycling race, it’s fair to say Yorkshire is brimming with anticipation – and the folk here at Black Sheep are certainly no exception!

To celebrate one of the world’s largest sporting events quite literally passing by our front door, we have launched a cracking new seasonal beer to celebrate…and we’re pretty certain it will be our biggest seasonal ale ever!

Velo (that’s French for bicycle – but you knew that!) is a 4.2% ABV ‘free wheeling’ fresh pale ale brewed with cascade hops and an ever so subtle hint of orange and coriander. Developed at our very own microbrewery before being promoted to our main plant due to unprecedented demand, Velo will ride on the back of Le Grand Party on 5th July – the biggest party our home in Masham has ever seen!

Raising funds for charity

Sales of Velo will also help raise funds for cyclist Mike Hughes, Yorkshire’s very own Marie Curie Peloton rider. Mike will be part of a group of amateur cyclists which ride  stage one of the route on the opening day of the race, raising valuable funds for charity along his way.

If you can spare some loose change in support of Mike, he and us would very much appreciate it.  Mike can be sponsored directly at www.justgiving.com/mjdhughes

Win a bike with VELO

We’d like to say a big thank you to Moonglu, the fantastic bike shop in Ripon, for donating a Giant Defy bike which loyal drinkers of Velo can win by collecting special Velo stickers in participating pubs this summer. Keep on pedalling folks!
