Local pub comes home

09 March 2009

With the help of the landlord, the people of Birstwith have restored the pub to the villagers. More than 100 years old, The Old Station is the heart of the village and the community, with many villagers getting together to enjoy a few pints and the sweet taste of success!

The landlords, Richard and Teresa Caven, celebrated the pub’s new found freedom on Friday 13th February. Richard commented: ‘It’s such a fantastic achievement for the whole community to have returned the pub to its village. The village pub has always been the heart of any village and now Birstwith locals can be safe in the knowledge that The Old Station really does belong to them.’

More than 100 people gathered to celebrate this event, including local girl and Old Station Inn regular, Claire King of Emmerdale and Strictly Come Dancing fame. Richard rewarded the devotees with a complimentary buffet and special discounted prices on drinks, including Black Sheep, which has been a firm favourite in the pub for over six years. Richard Caven is continuing his investment into the pub and village by planning to open ensuite letting rooms in May and an extension to the dining room and bar, to be ready by the end of the Summer 2009. Richard and Teresa would like to thank their locals and regulars for their support over the years in keeping their village pub going strong.
