Sun Inn Gastropub

Monday 6th February saw the unveiling of the Top 50 Gastropubs in Britain. The awards were held at Stoke Place Hotel in Buckinghamshire with the talented Nigel Barden hosting the event on behalf of the Publicans Morning Advertiser. Ye Old Sun Inn in Colton just outside Tadcaster who stock Black Sheep beer were awarded number 30 in the star studded line up. Husband and wife team, Ashley and Kelly McCarthy commented ‘we are so delighted to have made the top 50, never mind gaining the number 30 position. It is a great achievement for the whole team here at the Sun, one we are very proud of’. Ashley and Kelly finished a massive £350k refurbishment last June which increased capacity of the dining areas and give them a new specially designed kitchen where chef Ashley now holds cookery classes as well as producing great dishes from local produce. The pair have been at the Sun since 2004 and have won a collection of regional and national awards over the years. The Publicans Morning Advertiser added, ‘This pub prides itself on local produce: chickens in the garden, home grown vegetables and making products such as ice creams and breads’.
