54° North

Small Batch Helles Lager

54° North was introduced to our range in July 2017 and launched at the Great Yorkshire Show.

This is the first lager we've ever brewed here at Black Sheep, introduced to mark 25 years since Paul Theakston established the brewery back in 1992. The beer world has changed a lot since those early years and the introduction of 54° North shows how we're constantly trying to push our boundaries and offer an eclectic mix of beers to our loyal drinkers.

54° North is a German inspired Helles lager, brewed with a Yorkshire twist. Top fermented in our famous Yorkshire Square Fermenters, it is brewed with German Pilsner malt and three varieties of German hops; Magnum, Polaris and Tettnang. Pure water from the Dales is used as well as our own Black Sheep yeast.

The result is a beautifully balanced lager with a crisp and refreshing bite. Floral, herbal notes dominate the nose before a light bready base engulfs the palate. The classic dry finish continues onto your next sip, leaving a perfectly thirst-quenching pint.

The 54th parallel north is the line of latitude around the earth that passes through Masham, Yorkshre - the home of our brewery. Hence the name, 54° North!
