"The Frostbite 50"
2011 will see a field of hardened runners competing in the first ever North Yorks Moors Ultramarathon.
Dubbed the Frostbite 50, the race will take place on the 29th of January starting in the grounds of Whitby Abbey and taking the competitors along the stunning coastal path to Ravenscar before heading inland and up onto the bleak midwinter moors. Looping around the moorland, they will come back to the coast and wearily head back along the Cleveland Way to finish back at Whitby Abbey 50 miles later.
The race is the second to be organised by expedition management company Adventure Hub. Their inaugural race in Norfolk was an enormous success and they hope that the Yorkshire race will present runners with even more of a challenge.
Sponsors from the Norfolk event are expected to also support the Yorkshire Ultra. Meanwhile, The Black Sheep Brewery in Masham, North Yorkshire has already donated goody bags for each competitor and the organisers will make every effort to ensure that their products feature prominently as part of the weekend’s activities by drinking as much Black Sheep ale as seems prudent (all competitors will be urged to run responsibly).
Anyone interested in taking part can contact Adventure Hub at firstname.lastname@example.org. Anyone with a morbid interest in what these people look like can come and watch. Just check out the website www.adventurehub.com or follow their Facebook page.
